John Shoemaker: Memories and Images November 3 - 30 2007
|
Opening: November 3, 6:00 pm Memories and Images Showcases New Abstracts at Sutrov Gallery This fall Sutrov Gallery resumes its monthly exhibits with new works by the ever intriguing John Shoemaker. Memories and Images opens with a reception on November 3rd from 6-9pm at Sutrov Gallery at 149 Hana Hwy in Pa’ia. Shoemaker is constantly expanding the array of mediums he calls upon. He currently makes use of encaustic, ink, fabric, dyes, oil painting, and some of these newly released works have a sculptural element as well. "I long ago gave up trying to assure that the viewer interpret my work exactly as I do," Shoemaker says. "Suffice it to say that one of my core beliefs is that all art is spiritual." Indeed, mythology and inner worlds are perhaps layered in these artworks, but that is left for the viewer to perceive. The viewer becomes the final layer to these works, the “Memories and Images” their own. |
