New Figures at Sutrov Gallery: TERRY WYNNE October 22 - November 20 2006
|
Opening: October 22, 4:00 pm On Sunday October 22nd Sutrov Gallery in Pa’ia will open an exhibit of new works by artist Terry Wynne. Wynne’s work was featured in the 2006 Shaefer Portrait Challenge, and she has been gaining prominence on the island for her oil on Venetian plaster Buddha paintings. The high contrast of black and white, with a slight, softening blend of reds and blues, makes pieces such as Compassion very striking. Terry finds the timeless texture of the Venetian plaster inspiring to work with. This exhibit of Wynne’s paintings will also include large works soaked with color, and an array of expressive portraits. “I really like watching people’s faces, eyes, how they move. Since I was a kid, I’ve been watching people,” says Wynne. “When you paint someone you get a sense of them that you can’t get by talking to them—their spirit, maybe. It’s a way of connecting. Something happens in the process; it moves me. I don’t know of anything like it.” |
